Wedding Feature: Jennifer + Joseph
On October 26th, 2019, Jennifer & Joseph said “I do!” We were so honored to play at their gorgeous and energy infused wedding reception, and we are excited to share their journey as a couple: how they met and how they managed to create an incredible final result filled with joy and love.
Tell us the story of how you two met.
Joe and I both went to Seattle University and had been introduced many times through different avenues. At separate times, both my sister and our mutual best friend tried to set us up! For some reason, we ignored them all until we finally worked on a committee together and realized we loved spending time together so we decided to give dating a try and seven years later ended up getting married! And yes, everyone has been sure to say, “I told you so” 😉
What made you decide that this was the right person to be with for the rest of your life?
Jen: I’ve never felt more understood by anyone. Even when we think about something differently, Joe still knows where I’m coming from and makes me feel comfortable challenging myself. We were young when we started dating, but I remember a specific moment a year or two in where I thought, “I can’t wait to take on life together”. We’ve been through a lot of important life stages together prior to getting married and they’ve only made us stronger as a team.
Joe: I have never felt more at home than I do when I am with Jen. The way that she looks at me, holds me, pushes me to be my best, and loves me unconditionally through all of life’s ups and downs, I knew that she was the one I wanted to be with for the rest of my life.
What do you enjoy most about each other’s company?
We enjoy each other’s company because we’re so comfortable together. It’s truly come as you are whether you’re in a good head space or not and we’re always open to changing plans based on what the other person needs. No matter how we started, we usually end up laughing and smiling together by the end!
How was your experience with Blue Wave Band?
We cannot rave enough about our experience with Blue Wave Band. David was so communicative and the planning website was so easy to use! I loved that I could update plans at any time throughout the process since wedding planning details are constantly changing. The day of, the band was incredible- they stole the show!! Music and dancing at the reception were so important to us. We both have large families who enjoy dancing and to us, that’s what the reception was going to be all about. Blue Wave got every guest on their feet within minutes and we spent all night tearing up the dance floor. We had guests that said goodbye to us multiple times because they couldn’t get themselves to leave the music. Each band member’s musical ability and energy level was incredible and the customized playlist was everything we could have dreamed of and more!
What was your favorite song you danced to at your wedding?
We don’t even remember what songs these were (the wedding day is always such a blur!) but we have two favorite moments from the dance floor:
First, our original vision for our wedding band was having a few brass instruments but we had decided to go with a smaller band in order to manage our overall cost. At the last minute, we contacted David and said we were going to regret it if we didn’t have the band we had originally dreamed of, so we increased the band size. At one point in the night, the sax player had an incredible solo (one that our guests are still talking about!) and I remember Joe looking at me and saying “we almost didn’t have that saxophone player”. We’ve never been more glad to splurge on something! The second moment was towards the end of the night when the singer hopped off the stage and danced with Joe and me in the crowd. That was such a fun surprise and it felt so personal!
Share one special memory from your wedding with us.
One of my favorite moments from the day was when were ahead of schedule and had a little time to spend before we entered the reception so our photographer asked if we would be ok with an extra photoshoot. She played our first dance song on her phone speaker and had us dance in the middle of the street outside our venue. It was such a special moment for us to just relax and take the last few moments together before we went to greet our guests and I think of that feeling every time I look at those photos!
Do you have any advice for couples as they plan for their wedding?
For couples currently planning their wedding: Weddings have a lot of moving parts and it’s so easy to get caught up in the stress of planning. Focus on the things that will leave a lasting memory and truly matter on your wedding day, the rest of the details are just a bonus. And at the end of the day, always keep in mind that the true purpose of a wedding is to celebrate your love for each other and that’s the only thing that’s important.
